The Value Of Carrying A Small Notebook and Space Pen

notebooks and pens

Ever wish you had a notebook or something to write down a phone number or note on?

How many times has this happened…

I got a call from my boss about 1pm. I’d just been on the job for a few weeks at the time. He wanted me to do a number of things, a few of which were to contact clients about issues they were having.

I realized half way through the conversation that I didn’t have anything to take notes on. Nor did I have a pen. I was about 300 yards from the car, installing network fiber.

Can you imagine his irritation as he waited for me to jog back to my car for a pen and notebook?

This never happened again.

Since that day, I’ve always carried a small notebook / notepad and Fisher Space pen in order to always take notes at any time.

It has gotten so important to me, the Moleskine Cahier I carry stays on my person along with the fisher space pan. I do have two extra notebooks in my EDC bag along with about four or five pens (Foray 1.2mm bold line from Office Depot) as backups.

Since that fateful day, I’ve been ready to take notes anytime and anywhere.

The first extra notebook is a Rite-In-The-Rain pocket notebook. I chose this one for the days that it’s rainy or extremely cold. The notebook itself is all weather and actually does accept the Fisher Space Pen’s ink very well in both torrential rain as well as 2 degree weather!

I have a Mead Cambridge spiral bound pocket notepad too. I mainly use this for quick jots that I have to tear off and leave somewhere. I don’t like tearing out pages of the Moleskine, so that’s why I have this along in my backpack.
