I still love writing with pen, pencil and paper. Many people call it “Analog” writing. No Batteries. No Charging. Blackout Proof. What’s not to like? For me, I’ve carried many notebooks over the years, but the Blackwing Slate (dot grid style) is the best I’ve used. It even comes with the legendary Blackwing 602 pencil in a holder in the spine, so you don’t even need to try and find one. Let’s take a closer look at the Blackwing slate notebook.
Best Notebook Period. Blackwing Slate
Let’s put it this way: I like quality. I pay a bit more for it. Usually quality items work as expected, if not better, and in the end, are well worth the money. This is true of pens, pencils and notebooks. The Blackwing Slate notebook is no exception to that ideal. When you want the best writing experience, yet still need to be budget minded, the Slate notebook from Blackwing is perfect for everyday carry. The notebook feels a lot better built in your hand as opposed to the general EDC favorites, Leuchtturm and Moleskine. The paper is better and best of all, this note book has a loop on the fabric spine to hold your pencil or pen so you don’t have to spend time rummaging around in your backpack or messenger bag for it.
160 Pages Of Pure Luxury
The Blackwing Slate is not like any notebook you may have used or are using right now. I love the thicker 100gsm paper that offers big benefits of lasting longer and better erasing resistance. It’s a smoother, more bristol-like feel than Moleskine, Leuchtturm and Field Notes, and the best part is that the price is right in the same range as those other notebooks.
Inside the Blackwing Slate Notebook
I love the inside cover and first page. It’s a really nice layout of personal information if you ever lose the notebook, and the index for fast reference. The inner flap feels like it could be 140gsm-160gsm paper and is even thicker and more durable than the following pages.
At the back of the notebook, there’s a nice little layout on notetaking methods. It’s really pretty useless, but hey, it’s there. There’s also a rear pocket to put a few things into.
Pen/Pencil Holder
As I mentioned before, there’s a built in pen/pencil holder on the spine of the book. This really makes things convenient since you don’t have to hunt for your favorite pen or pencil when you crack open the notebook.
